Year 8 E-Safety Competition

E-Safety WinnerIn October 2011 a competition was launched with Year 8.  The task was to design a poster for school which offered E-Safety Advice including Internet Safety Rules

The winner was Jasmine Hulse 8REV, her entry has now been put onto the desktop of all school accounts so when students log on they now see her poster in fully colour.

The runner ups were Rebecca McKennall and Jade Worrall 8PTA, Ross Frewin and Aled Cropley 8NWI, Lauren Miller and Leah Stockton 8MDA and Oliver Marx 8PTA.  The runner ups will have their poster printed in colour and on A3 paper, these will be displayed around school.

In Year 8 Assembly on Tuesday 18th October the winner and the runner ups also received a gift voucher prize from the Deputy Head, Mr Capstick.

There were over one hundred entries.  Thank you so much to everyone who entered there are obviously a lot of very creative students in Year 8!

Year 8’s Second round of English Schools Cup

Year 8’s football team were beaming and ready to take on second round Holy Family in the English Schools Cup. The team knew it was going to be difficult from here on in.

The boys began the game at 100mph; was this going to set the tone for the rest of the game. YES IT WAS!

Johnny Cooper sent a sensational ball from the right corner flag over the keepers head only to meet James Stamp on the head and into the back of the net. The team celebrated with James however know the job wasn’t done.

Year 11’s Visit to World Skills London 2011

On Friday 7th October Mr Cooney and Mrs Robinson took 10 Year 11 students to the World Skills festival in the ExCel Arena, London.  World Skills is the Olympics of the skills industry and is a showcase for practical skills in the fields of construction, IT, engineering, catering and fashion.

World Marathon Challenge for Save the Children

On Wednesday 5th October, 36 Year 7 & 8 boys and girls raced in Manchester, completing the 26.2 miles in 2hrs 2 mins 9 secs. This placed us 3rd in England and 6th overall out of 51 in the world table. As well as the Engish schools there were teams from Ireland, France, Canada, Spain, Norway, China, Kenya, Mali, Mexico and New Zealand competing in the challenge.

Helsby High School GCSE Successes 2011

GCSE Results Day 2011Staff and pupils at Helsby High School are celebrating this year’s excellent GCSE results. The outstanding examination results reflect the pupils’ hard work and their commitment to their studies.

Provisional analysis shows that this year 91% of the pupils passed a minimum of 5 A*-C grades, with 98% gaining 5 A*-G grades. 34 pupils have achieved 8 or more grades at A* or A which is an exceptional performance.

Mr Dowler, Headteacher commented: “We are extremely proud of the successes and achievements of our students. These results reflect the hard work and talents of our students and staff as well as the support of the students’ families.”

Particular congratulations go to the following pupils who gained an outstanding set of results that were all at grade A* or A; Natasha Mannion, Hannah Bergstrand, Helen Elmes, Alexander Jones, Tom London, Hannah Gleave, Daniel Morgan, Cecilia Vinchenzo, Penny Leadbetter, Poppy Owen, Alexandra Sproson, Nina White, Sophie Lockett, Simon Stubbs, Benjamin Macinnes, Laura Pegler, Joseph Roberts, Nathan Rogers, Mark Halliwell and Laura Cunniffe.

Helsby High School Students Celebrate Outstanding A-Level Results

A-Level Results 2011Yet again, Upper Sixth students at Helsby High School are celebrating an outstanding set of A-level results.  Provisional analysis shows that A* to E pass rate was 99.5%, with an A* to C pass rate of 79%.  38 students achieved at least 2 A* or A grades amongst their results.

Mr. Dowler, Head Teacher, commented; ‘These results reflect the commitment and hard work of our students, guided by our dedicated teaching staff and supportive parents.  I should like to wish all students every success in the next stage of their lives’.

Particular congratulations go to Aoife Haymer, Lucy Smalley, Zoe Tattersall and Alistair Young who attained 3A* grades each.  Stephen Waugh, who is going to study Mathematics with Economics at the London School of Economics, deserves special mention with an impressive 5 A* grades.
