Charity fundraising is an important part of life at HHS. Every two years the school selects a charity to support and students from all years participate in a variety of fundraising events. Our nominated charity for the next 2 years is ‘Cancer Research UK.’ This organisation is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research and was chosen by the students as our nominated school charity for this year.
The students have hit the ground running so far this year raising an impressive £1000 so far this year for the charity. These funds have been raised from ideas such as; Cake Sales, Raffles, Guess How Many Sweets in the Jar and contributions from own clothes days. We are ever hopeful that our forecast of £2000 will be met.
Alongside our School charity the students of HHS have been busy fundraising for other worthy causes.
The Sixth Form Charity team took over the Break Out Space during this year’s Poppy Appeal, selling an array of British Legion memorabilia and raising a fantastic £881. A huge well done goes to Jenny and the rest of her team.
Save the Children
Festive jumpers were worn in order to raise money for Save the Children back in December. Many students took part and we raised an impressive £300.
Alongside of Christmas Hamper collects we asked for food donations for our local Food banks – and what a lot of food was brought in. We managed to donate a colossal 700kgs of food to our local branches ensuring that local families and our local community are benefiting.
Rucksacks for Refugees
Once again Mrs McGovern organised a project for filling and delivering filled rucksacks for refugees. Our generous students complied 151 filled rucksacks which were then sent to Syria and Europe to aid children in need.
We have also had a Year 8 student who has been recently diagnosed with a Brain tumour and in order to help the family with house alterations various events have and will happen over the course of the year inclusive of a ‘Cinema Club’ and another Panna Football in conjunction with our Local PCSOs.
The students here at HHS are to be commended for the giving natures and positive attitudes towards helping those less fortunate than themselves. They continuously bring enthusiasm when supporting charity event and this is shown not only in the fantastic amounts we raise but also in the smiles and laughter created whilst doing them.
