Former Sixth Form students visit from Oxford University

Sixth Form History students at Helsby were recently visited by two of our former students who spoke to them enthusiastically and informatively about their experiences of studying History and PPE at Oxford. Both students had formerly gained A Levels here, including History. Ellen, who is studying History, spoke passionately about her belief that a place at Oxford is absolutely achievable, and she gave some really sound advice to potential candidates. For those not considering this, her information was very helpful to all students considering applying for a History or history related degree course. In particular, she spoke about ‘super-curricular’ experiences that make applicants stand out, such as visiting places of historical interest and reading widely and diversely. Frankie highlighted the opportunities that she has been able to explore as a result of her choice to study PPE at Oxford. She enlightened us as to some of the Oxford traditions and gave us a good insight into the application process.

Ellen and Frankie also spoke to Year 11 and Year 12 students considering applying to Oxbridge, and gave an insight into the Oxbridge application and interview process, as well as their experiences in the college system.

We would like to thanks both Ellen and Frankie for giving their time to inspire the next cohort of Helsby Sixth Form Oxbridge applicants.
