Weaver Vale MP Mike Amesbury Visits Helsby High School

On Friday the 2nd March, myself and the other Year 12 and Year 13 Politics students met with our local MP for Weaver Vale, Mike Amesbury. Mike talked to us about how he’d got into politics and his career that lead to him becoming an MP. He was able to enlighten us on his experiences in parliament and what his typical working week involves. We were than able to ask Mike some questions both about himself and UK politics as a whole. Amongst other things, we asked him: about his future ambitions for Weaver Vale, his thoughts on Theresa May as a Prime Minster and Jeremy Corbyn as leader of the opposition, and any reform he would bring to the UK political system. Of course we also questioned him on his thoughts on the current Brexit negotiations and Labour’s position to stay in the customs union.

Overall it was a very informative and interesting experience, from which we learnt a lot about Mike and UK politics. It has also been useful in our studies as politics students, and we are thankful to Mike for giving us this opportunity and look forward to meeting him again when we visit the Houses of Parliament in July.
