Year 5 Primary School Taster Days

On Monday 5th February and Friday 9th February 2018 we delivered a series of taster lessons to ninety Year 5 students from eleven different Primary Schools.

The Taster Days were delivered in a cross curricular format. The lessons were planned and delivered by our Trainee Teachers from Liverpool John Moors University. The following was offered:

• Art and History – Theme ‘Industrial Revolution’
• Geography and MFL – Theme ‘Europe – Culture & Languages’
• Maths and Drama – Theme ‘Puzzle Solving & Free Movement’

Each Taster Day was supported by our Year 7 Buddy Team. The team delivered their own question and answer session with Year 5 after lunchtime. Year 7 shared with Year 5 their own experiences of transition and answered questions that Year 5 had about life at Secondary School.

We have been inundated with such positive feedback from parents, students and primary schools, these include:

Year 5 Student, “I really don’t want to leave today, I was really worried and now I am looking forward to coming back. I have had so much fun!”

Year 5 Parent, “My daughter really enjoyed the day, she can’t stop talking about how grown up she feels and how amazing the lessons were.’

Feeder Primary School, “The day was so well organised, the taster lessons were planned impeccably and delivered with such enthusiasm by your Trainee Teachers”

The Taster Days provided Year 5 with a valuable opportunity to experience life as a Helsby High School student. It also aimed to encourage students to look forward to the transition to Secondary school and the exciting opportunities the next phase of their education will bring.
