From the 8th to the 15th November thirteen brave students from years 9 and 10 stepped out of their comfort zones and headed to Germany, where they spent the week living with German families and experiencing the German way of life as part of the Helsby High School German exchange programme. The group stayed with pupils from the Helmholtz Gymnasium in Hilden, which is a small town in North West Germany, not far from the well-known cities of Cologne and Düsseldorf. During the week students attended lessons with their German exchange partners, enabling them to experience first-hand the differences and peculiarities of the German school system and to practice and improve their language skills in an authentic setting. We also enjoyed day trips to the beautiful cities of Düsseldorf and Cologne, and were privileged enough to meet the mayor of Hilden, who gave each student a key-ring as a memento of our visit. This was a truly unforgettable week, in which memories and friendships were made that will last forever. We look forward to welcoming our German friends to Helsby in March, and hope we can make their visit as fantastic and memorable as ours! Auf Wiedersehen!
