The annual Sports Awards Evening was held in the school hall earlier this week. Well over a hundred students, parents, guests and staff gathered together in order to recognise many of the fantastic achievements of our teams and individual athletes.
Awards to recognise achievements in individual sports, achievements outside of school, outstanding leadership, commitment to the fitness suite, most improved, team of the year and overall sports personalities of the year were handed out to the winners from each of the key stages with a mixture of photos and well-produced videos accompanying the prize giving.
Our guest speaker on the evening was ex-student Alfie Bailey (2002-2009) who gave an inspirational talk on the importance of accepting no obstacles in the pursuit of possibilities and the importance of being completely dedicated and fully focussed in achieving your goals. It was a fantastic speech which will live long in the memories of the students who were fortunate enough to hear it.
The evening ended with a tribute to Mr Dennis Evans who after 30 years on the teaching staff and a further 10 as a coach will no longer be an employee of the school for the first time in 40 years at the end of this term. Almost 30 former students who have benefitted from Dennis’ teaching and coaching surprised him at the end of the awards when he was presented with gifts to recognise all of his contributions to the students of the school.
The PE department would like to thanks all those who attended the event as well as all the people from outside of the department whose help and support made the evening such a success.
