Many thanks to those of you who complete our parental voice survey earlier this term. Altogether we had 301 responses from parents with children in Years 7 to 10.
There were 3 main areas covered:
1. School uniform
A majority of respondent said they agreed changes to HHS uniform should be considered. This is something we will also be consulting staff and students on in the next term, before reaching a decision. As pointed out previously, in terms of ensuring we meet the requirements of equality legislation, this is a matter the school will need to consider carefully.
2. Phone use in school
A considerable majority of respondents felt that it would be appropriate to allow students to use their phones in school in a controlled manner. Students already may be asked to use their phone in the classroom under exceptional circumstances agreed and supervised by their teacher.
Next term, we will also canvas views of staff on this matter, and make a decision following this.
3. Rewards Trip
A significant majority of respondents agreed with broadening the scope of such a trip so that all students who met the expectations of the school were eligible to attend, and therefore we intend to proceed on this basis.
Students will be advised early in the new term of the exact requirements with regard to their effort, behaviour and attendance. Whenever attendance is considered, we always take into account the fact that some students have medical conditions which result in significant absences from school.
Once again many thanks for the time spent answering these questions, and for the extended responses too – which are all read and noted.
