Rucksacks for Refugees 2016

On Tuesday 8th November 2016, Helsby High School students sent 151 rucksacks, filled with goodies, to a local charity called SHARE (based in Mold, Flintshire) to be sent to refugee children living in camps in Syria and Europe.

Students from Year 7 to Year 13 had worked together with their forms, families and friends to create the rucksacks which were filled with items such as colouring books, pens, puzzles, warm clothing, toiletries, and sweet treats; many students also wrote heart warming messages of support for the recipients.

Ms McGovern, who organised the collection, was delighted and overwhelmed by the incredibly generous donations from all members of the school and local community, and was very grateful to the many Sixth Form and Year 11 students who gave up free periods and stayed behind after school to help sort through and label the rucksacks. Special thanks also goes to Mrs Edwards who gave up her time to drive the school minibus to the SHARE charity HQ in Mold, where the rucksacks were very gratefully received.
