Coming UpParental Forum The next parental forum is on Wednesday 15th November at 6.30pm. It would be great to see as many parents as possible at the next of these interesting events.
Christmas Craft Fayre The very popular Christmas Craft Fayre will be held on Sunday 25th November from 11am until 3pm – more details will posted here soon, so keep an eye out and tell your friends – let’s make it the biggest one yet! Students will be asked to bring in prizes for the tombolas during November. If you know anyone who owns a local business (or you do yourself) that would like to support the school by donating a raffle prize for the Christmas Fayre (great publicity!), please contact Mr |
Latest News4 New Canon cameras for use by students & staff Friends of Helsby High School donated £1000 for the purchase of 4 Canon cameras, for publicity/marketing/celebration use by students & staff. These very good quality cameras are available for staff & students to reserve and borrow to record events they have organised or taken part in. The cameras have been put to good use by students on a pre-filming/planning day for the school DVD. “The quality is superb and they are very easy to use. Please would you pass on my thanks to the other parents who work very hard on the school’s behalf for the donation” says Mrs Neale, Assistant head teacher. Hand held voting consoles for the RE department The RE department has purchased a class set of hand held voting consoles with £1000 donated by Friends of Helsby High School. Mr Wheeler, Head of RE tells us: “This will not only help to engage students but should also help to highlight how RE has moved with the times as a subject RE Department. We hope to use these as a tool for testing students on what they have learned as well as helping less confident students interact with the lesson fully. OFSTED are always keen to make sure that all students are making progress and contributing in lessons. Hopefully we now have the tools to demonstrate this easily.” |

How to get Involved
You don’t have to give a huge commitment. Take a look at the ways you can offer your support:
Gift Aid
Make a voluntary donation by standing order payment to the school. If you’re a UK tax payer – you can boost the amount you give by signing up for gift aid which means the school can reclaim the tax from the government. If every pupil’s family donated just £5 per year – we’d raise £1,000 per year from Yr 7 alone! It’s easy to do, simply click here to print off a gift aid declaration form and return to the school as instructed.
100 Club
Win up to £200!
For only £2 per month you can help raise money for the school and give yourself the opportunity to win some cash yourself. Every term we draw three lucky prize winners….. 1st prize = £200, 2nd prize = £100, 3rd prize = £50.
Sign up today and help your school! Click here to print off an application form and return to Mr Capstick at the school.
Parent Forums
At a meeting with parents in September, Head teacher Mr Dowler expressed his enthusiasm for more parental involvement. He suggested the committee organise consultation meetings on various key topics with parents and staff. So watch this space for future dates and topics of discussion.
Helping at Events
There’s always a need for help at events. Don’t worry if you don’t know anyone on the committees, your offer of help will be truly appreciated and you’ll feel part of a team in no time. Some contacts are listed below – just get in touch!
Uniform Shop
The uniform shop is organised by the parents’ association and is a useful source of extra funding. The uniform shop is open every Monday so please take advantage of this. Volunteers are always needed to help staff the shop. Can you spare some time? Please contact Jayne Bamber (labamba68@virginmedia.com)
What are funds used for?
The fund raising efforts of parents, children and friends have already provided: a brand new school minibus – complete with Helsby High School logo; picnic benches for lunches outside; stage lighting for the drama department; electrical equipment and computers; TVs, VCRs and a camcorder; equipment for (& donation to) fitness suite and new display boards for students’ work…to name but a few!

Chairperson’s statement
This year there are many new faces ‘on board’. Here is a short message from our new chair, Nadia Dickie:
“As parents, guardians, teachers, alumni or friends and relatives of pupils in the school, you are all members of ‘Friends of Helsby High School’. The parent’s association has raised valuable funds for the school over many years. Many of the members have moved on after a long period of dedicated commitment and they’ve handed over responsibilities to a new team. We hope to continue the great work that’s been done in the past and welcome any offers of help and support.”
